Do I Really Need To Be Organised?

The answer is simply – YES.  Being organised on a daily basis really is important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

When things are physically all over the place then your mind is too and vice versa. Hence, it’s important to be organised both mentally and physically.

But things don’t always go to plan, even for the most organised people and realistically no-one can be super organised ALL the time.  Life throws us curve balls and everyone has an off day every now and then, but the key is to get yourself back on track when this happens.

Being organised means that even if you are thrown off track for a period of time it should be relatively easy to find your way back.

However, once you start letting things slide your chores and to do lists along with other things that pop up along the way tend to build up and may make you feel as though they are much bigger than they really are.  This is when people tend to give up, start to feel stressed and overwhelmed and then have to deal with an ongoing battle of disorganisation that they feel they will never win.

So what can you do to make a change?

Focussing on the points below, start with 5-10 minutes a day then gradually increase this time to 15-30 minutes a day or even longer if necessary.

  • Do something you have been putting off.  This could be tidying the home or office, actioning a to-do item etc.

  • Walk around the house with a garbage bag throwing out rubbish, broken items or anything that really needs to be thrown away.

  • Gather up items that you no longer need or want and donate them to a friend in need or local charity.  Put them in your car and don’t look back!

Just remember:

  • Please don’t give up, ever - getting organised really is worth the effort.

  • Getting organised is not a once in a while task, but something that needs to be done on an ongoing basis.

  • Don’t be shy - enlist the help of a family member, friend or seek professional help if needed.

Once you start to get on top of things this process will become much easier and you’ll be organising yourself without even realising it. You’ll be less stressed and have more time to do other things that you enjoy.

Who knows, you may actually enjoy the process!
